Post COVID HELP

Have you had COVID and found it hard to fell like yourself afterwards?  I’ve had many patients talk about having difficulties feeling calm for weeks or months after having COVID. The last couple years have been stressful and fearful to a lot of people and most have had to adapt to some lifestyle changes. Long term chronic stress is a big trigger for your body having trouble settling down. I have seen so many of my patients suffering from nervous system over stimulation and exhaustion.  Sometimes this can be triggered by the actual COVID virus, sometimes the vaccinations, and sometimes it is just from dealing with the stress of the pandemic and life the past few years.

What does it mean when your body is over stimulated?  It could be symptoms like feeling your heart racing, skipping beats, having a hard time taking deep breaths, not getting into a deep sleep, not being able to turn off your mind, getting sick repeatedly or having a hard time recovering from being sick.   Feeling depressed, anxious, run down, about to have a break down or chronically fatigued are common symptoms when the nervous system is over stimulated.

COVID is a very unique virus that attacks the Vagus nerve and weakens it to allow other viruses to enter the body.  The Vagus nerve is very important for dealing with stress and instructs how our organs work, especially the brain, heart, lungs, diaphragm and upper digestion.   Vagus nerve issues is the new pandemic that I have been seeing with most of my patients and it takes a lot of hard work to get this nerve functioning again.

What can be done to help this nerve heal?  Chiropractic adjustments are one of the best ways to stimulate this nerve to change.  The trick is that in order to focus on improving this nerve, certain areas of the body should not be adjusted and you often will need more frequent adjustments during the acute phase of care.  Adding craniosacral technique, diaphragm releases, and the red-light laser treatment are the most beneficial to restoring the Vagus nerve.   Once you are out of the office, doing plenty of mindfulness exercises such as having quiet time away from screens, deep breath exercises, meditation, yoga and doing something that brings you joy are a must to do often!   Infrared sauna treatments, Epson salt baths, cleaning up your diet to decrease your inflammation, adding in adaptogen supplements or tea can also really help speed up your healing.

This system needs a lot of work to get settled down and takes a lot of effort with your physicians and yourself
